Artist Biography

Gabrielly Krystine De Oliveira Tavares is a São Paulo born, now based in New York multidisciplinary artist. Her practice- spanning oil painting, ceramics, and digital media- acts as a form of exploration regarding identity, conflict, and transformation through the lens of her immigration experience. Her work engages with these intersectional layers; arriving in the United States at the age of 11, she works through her identity as a Latina woman under the ever-shifting political climate. She uses her artistic practice to explore those complex emotions about her experience, often using prey animals as a visual language to communicate emotion, memory, and cultural displacement, focusing on generational trauma and the individual's role in the cycle. She has exhibited in local showcases and further developed her ceramics practice through her role at Studio Barro, where she worked as a Studio Technician and Instructor, fostering both technical skill and community engagement.

She is currently pursuing a BFA with a specialization in ceramics at Queens College. Alongside her studies, Gabrielly is establishing a worker-owned co-operative studio space that merges her passion for ceramics with her commitment to building accessible, community-centered creative environments. She envisions a career that continues to expand her artistic practice while remaining deeply rooted in education and community.
